Saving the Sunglasses

A terrible thing happened when I was mucking about on a beach in Japan.  The wind was oh-so-blustery. I was standing near the edge of a peer when my favorite blue sunglasses blew off from around my neck and landed about 10 feet below in the salty water. I have a special connection with those slick shades, so I was fairly upset about them falling into the ocean.  Luckily, they landed close enough to the crusty concrete blocks that I could climb down near the water and see them at the bottom.  More after the jump:

The Sunglasses.

They fell off from on top of this concrete slab.

The crevasse that they fell into.  :(

Firstly, I went a fetched a long stick so I could gauge how deep the water was.  It seemed to be about 5 or 6 feet.  I found a couple more nice sticks and some string and I was able to fashion a wooden hook.  The sunglasses were successfully fished out of the sea on my first try!  >o<

Got'em!

victory pose.

Gotta be worth some J points here.
I'm callin' it 20.
